The fourteenth Margaret Duerr Award will be presented on Tuesday, September 19th at 6:30 pm in the Library’s Community Room.  The recipient of the award is Rick Brandi, Charlevoix City Treasurer for twenty-seven years and a member of the Library Board of Trustees for nineteen years, most importantly during the renovation of the 1927 school building into the current library.

The speaker will be author William Rapai, a former newspaper editor who has worked for the Detroit Free Press and The Boston Globe. He is now the author of Lake Invaders; Invasive Species and the Battle for the Future of the Great Lakes, which is published by Wayne State University Press. His first book, The Kirtland’s Warbler; The Story of a Bird’s Fight Against Extinction and the People Who Saved It, was published in 2012 by University of Michigan Press. His next book, Brewed in Michigan; The new golden age of brewing in the Great Beer State, will be published in September by Wayne State University Press.  He lives in Grosse Pointe, just a short walk from Lake St. Clair.

The Friends of the Library cordially invite you to spend the evening honoring Rick Brandi and hearing the author discuss the critical issues affecting our Great Lakes.
