The Charlevoix Public Library provides free access to powerful research databases via the Internet. Access to these databases is provided by the Charlevoix Public Library, and the Access Michigan project, in conjunction with the Library of Michigan and the Michigan Library Consortium. Additional resources are also available at the library.
Databases are helpful when you want to find specific information on a variety of topics. They contain popular press and scholarly articles, encyclopedic entries, and are rich with content. They are simple to search and contain accurate and current information. Each database requires a login using your Charlevoix Public Library card number.

Student Resource Center Bronze (Thomson Gale)
This “one-stop” for homework (grades 6-college) and research center provides information on geography, literature, history and science. Full text articles are available from current magazines, newspapers, and reference books. The database provides primary sources, statistics and multimedia content.
Uses: Homework projects, term papers, current events and topical research.

Novels for Students (Thomson Gale):
This e-book collection provides plot summary, characters, themes, style, historical context, author biographies and a critical overview for over 500 novels.
Uses: High school and college students for English and literature class projects. Readers will find info on their favorite authors and books.

Britannica Online
Find information quickly and easily by searching this encyclopedia, magazines, journals, the Web’s Best Sites, media clips and Britannica videos. It includes an atlas, timelines, world data, and news of the day. A dictionary, thesaurus and quotation directory is also available.

Entryway to resources for children and young adults. Find information quickly and easily by searching the encyclopedia and dictionary. This site also has an atlas, dictionary, timelines, videos and learning materials. Learn about important people, big events and browse the featured spotlight articles. The Discover America feature gives students instant access to statistics, summary information, photos, and flags for all U.S. states.
Uses: School projects and homework assignments (K-6).

MeL is the Michigan eLibrary, an anywhere, anytime library for Michigan residents. MeL contains magazine, newspaper and journal articles, books and evaluated web sites. MeL can be used by any citizen of the state at no charge 24 hours/day. MeL includes specialized resources such as those in genealogy, health, business, test preparation, careers and education.
