From Charlevoix to India, come hear stories of the traveling books that are brought from around the world to underprivileged school children in India. Heather Lewis, a literacy activist, will share of her experiences visiting different parts of India with an organization called Sarvahitey. Heather and her son, Trevor, who has been to India twice himself, will share pictures and stories about how school age children seek studies after school or work to acquire opportunities that many American children are provided. Learn about similarities and differences in our cultures and what some of the challenges fellow students?face in India. Discover how children and adults can take part in helping underprivileged students or how to become pen pals with an Indian student. Children can also bring a book to the library program to donate to Indian children and write a note of encouragement in the cover, as the children in India love to read notes from other kids. There will also be some Indian snacks for tasting.Family Program appropriate for school-aged children, teens, and adults.
