EARLY BAYOU VISTA
The above is the earliest known photograph of the Belvedere bayou, taken in 1883. The Bayou was to become, in the years following, one of the most popular spots for pictures in Charlevoix.

OLD RIVER
The above picture, overlooking Old River, Round Lake, and the village, was taken from the cupola of one of the twin cottages on the Chicago Club, below.

THE GROWING RESORT
Above can be seen the Charlevoix Summer Resort as it looked in 1884. The picture was taken from a point to the far east of what is now the United States Coast Guard Station, near th R.R. bridge. The following year the lodging house burned down. It can be seen in the center of the picture just above the rowboat.
When the government dredged the upper channel from Round Lake to Pine Lake spiles were driven for a good distance into the latter to indicate navigable waters.
