S.S. MANITOU

The S.S. MANITOU being towed through the lower channel into Round Lake Harbor by the tug J.W. PARMELEE.

THE TECHNIQUES OF LIFE SAVING

Hundreds of people turned out for the annual demonstrations of life saving methods. Above is shown a simulated rescue using a breeches buoy, the line, or hawser, having been thrown across the channel to a dummy ship mast. Below, capsizing the rugged and unsinkable life boat, which was always righted in seconds.

TRAFFIC JAM AT FERRY DOCK

The Ferry Dock was located on Pine Lake near the Railway depot. The small steamers that served the area stopped here often to drop off passengers and freight for the Chicago Club and the Inn Hotel. The yacht in the above picture was the "PILGRIM," owned by Senator Newberry. She was later renamed the "HUM."

THE MINNIE S.

The picture above shows the "MINNIE S." taking on passengers. Every summer she ran a scheduled ferry service from the Inn Hotel to the village, with stops at the south pier of the upper channel for passengers from the Belvedere resort. She ran promptly every 30 minutes, the fare being 10 cents from the Inn to the village and 5 cents from the Belvedere.
