David Miles, Boulders: The Life and Creations of Earl A. Young in Charlevoix, Michigan

, MI
Boulders was commissioned by the Charlevoix Historical Society to fill a longstanding citywide need for information about our internationally known builder in stone Earl Young. Author David L. Miles, Curator at the Society’s Museum at Harsha House, with assistance from seven others, wrote and compiled Boulders from January, 2019 to January, 2020. This program will describe how they put the book together, discovered the chronology of early house construction using research tools unavailable until recently, utilized a vast amount of material donated from the Young estate, and were able to select magnificent photos of Young’s work taken both by Young and by master photographer Mike Barton that had never been seen before. Boulders debuted on May 29, 2020 and is already in its second printing. The Library of Michigan selected it as one of the Michigan-themed 20 Notable Books of 2021.
